Bell Ringing at St Oswald’s

The tradition of bell ringing is an ancient part of British culture and St. Oswald’s bells play an important part in the life of the church, calling people to worship on Sunday mornings before the morning service.

St. Oswald’s has a very fine ring of eight bells recast by Gillett & Johnstone in 1945. The bells weigh from 4cwt – 16cwt and the ringing room is accessed by a spiral stone staircase of 23 steps. Our ringers are of varied ages (teenage go 80+)

We are a friendly and enthusiastic band of bellringers and are keen to welcome new people to join us. We practice regularly on a Monday evening 7 – 8.30pm and welcome visitors.
