If you are preparing for marriage, congratulations on your engagement! A wedding is one of life’s great moments, a time of solemn commitment as well as good wishes, feasting and joy. St John tells us how Jesus shared in such an occasion at Cana, and gave there a sign of new beginnings as he turned water into wine. For Christians, marriage is also an invitation to share life together in the spirit of Jesus Christ. It is based upon a solemn, public and life-long covenant between two people, declared and celebrated in the presence of God and before witnesses.
St Oswald’s Church Guiseley and St Paul’s Esholt are both beautiful settings for your wedding, and we aim to support you before, during and after your special day. You will find more information about the requirements for a church wedding below.
To discuss your plans in more detail, please contact Father David Pickett, who will guide you through the arrangements and fees. You can meet him at our Parish Office at St Oswald’s Church (back entrance) on Thursdays from 6:30 – 8pm. Please note that we do ask for a £50 non-refundable deposit at the point of booking. We prefer marriage service music to be recognised Church music and hymns, played by our organist. It can, of course, be contemporary, but should be in keeping with a Church service, as we are trying to keep the name of The Lord in all we do. The musical requirements for your big day can be discussed with our Musical Director and organist, Martin Baker.
We would very much welcome you to join us for worship as part of our congregation in the run up to your wedding, so that we can get to know you and you us, and so that you become familiar with the buildings – see Our Services for further details.
